Green, Gold...Red?
We’ve seen green, we’ve seen gold but now…red? That’s right. During June this year, a limited amount of red kiwis were released for public consumption in nation-wide supermarkets. Although these were only sold for a limited time, it’s likely that in the next few months red kiwis will be as common as their green and gold counterparts.
Described as similar consistency to the gold variety, the red kiwis have more of a berry flavour than other kiwis currently available. After many years of trialing and tasting, the strain that has been developed is more resistant to PSA than previous developments.
However, these red kiwis ripen faster than other kiwis. So it is important to keep them in the fridge when they eventually hit the shelves!
